THE PURPOSE OF NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS
The voters of Los Angeles passed a new City Charter in 1999 which calls for a citywide system of independent Neighborhood Councils, chosen by the people of the neighborhoods themselves. Neighborhood Councils are comprised 100% of volunteers.
The purpose of Neighborhood Councils is to promote public participation in City governance and the decision-making process so that government is more responsive to local needs and requests. Neighborhood Councils will advise the Mayor, City Council and City Departments on the City budget and will give local residents greater say over the decisions that affect our lives.
As the advocate for more than 46,000 residents within the boundaries of Park Mesa Heights, our board includes representatives from residential associations, schools, businesses, and other local organizations. Neighborhood Councils can and do make
significant impacts on neighborhoods ...
only with your involvement; attend our next meeting!
Because Neighborhood Councils are directly linked to City government, Neighborhood Councils are a highly effective forum to discuss and resolve issues involving quality of life and city services. Anyone associated with a Neighborhood Watch group or Block Club is encouraged to participate in and bring their concerns to the Neighborhood Council.
Your Neighborhood Council promotes better and safer neighborhoods though our work on issues of land use, transportation, city services, and quality of life.
